ASAP (Arizona STEM Acceleration Project)

What is ASAP?

ASAP. You may never have heard of the amazing work being done in Arizona to support STEM education, but today you will! The Arizona STEM Acceleration Project (ASAP) is a vehicle to support STEM education across the state and truly throughout the world. Supported by Arizona State University’s Center for Science and Imagination and Mary Lou Fulton Teachers College, over 500 ASAP STEM Fellows are providing STEM lesson plans and enrichment activities to everyone.

How is Large as Life connected to ASAP?

Our King Penguin puzzle was recently incorporated into a multi-grade lesson on climate change by STEM Fellow Vicky Manning, and it can be found below: We love that she created a lesson that “through interactive activities, students will tackle mathematical problems centered on penguins, ice, and energy, analyze maps and environmental data, explore the unique properties of water and conservation of matter, and engage in reading and writing about penguins and climate change. They will recognize how penguin habitats serve as guardians for our environment and are examples of teamwork for survival. Drawing inspiration from penguins’ cooperative strategies, students will be encouraged to collaborate in addressing real-world challenges.” We love that our puzzles are being incorporated into classrooms, and we hope knowing about this amazing resource will inspire some of the efforts in your home or classroom to delve into STEM concepts in a deeper more meaningful way.
