Zoo Boise is enhancing its commitment to red panda conservation with the development of the Virginia R. Bartak Red Panda Passage, a state-of-the-art exhibit scheduled to open in Spring 2025.
This project is part of the zoo’s broader “Heart of the Zoo” initiative. It aims to improve animal habitats, expand educational opportunities, and bolster conservation efforts. The red pandas will enjoy three outdoor yards and indoor spaces along with an innovative overhead walkway that will connect the different areas. This will allow the red pandas to move freely between spaces, enhancing their natural behaviors. The new facility will enable Zoo Boise to house between 10 and 16 red pandas, playing a crucial role in the Association of Zoos and Aquariums’ Species Survival Plan, which focuses on breeding and population management for this endangered species.
We are thrilled for the red pandas who call Zoo Boise home: Stevie and Jasper, and the red pandas that will join them in the future. They are going to have a beautiful home!
We hope Zoo Boise guests will enjoy taking home a life-size red panda puzzle to enhance their appreciation and awareness of this beautiful, endangered animal. Thank you Zoo Boise for choosing to offer your guests the opportunity to buy a Large as Life Red Panda puzzle in your gift shop to ensure they remember their day at the zoo and the efforts being made to ensure the survival of red pandas for generations to come.
